When you start your business you need to think about your brand foundations. What makes your business unique and what can you offer the world that others can’t? Once you start thinking about your foundations, you can start creating content. And when you create content with your foundations in mind, you will attract your ideal client.
As a business owner, you are constantly creating content for your blog and our social media. Countless hours are put into creating content. So why aren’t you gaining an audience that engages with your content? Sure you may have a steady stream of followers, but they’re usually bots that don’t do anything for your business. What you need is real people that want to follow you and want to buy from you. I’ll bet you’re thinking “well, duh! That’s why I create content in the first place!” but have you ever thought about how your content ties back to your brand?
If you are creating “how to” content based on what you do, your audience won’t need your services. Your content will be much more engaging if it contains value. It might even get them thinking about hiring you! This is the mistake you are making with your content. You might think you are converting your audience with “how to” content, but you are pushing them away.
What’s the biggest mistake that content creators are making?
Plenty of entrepreneurs already write about why someone needs your service or product. So you shouldn’t be writing about it. You need to provide value for your audience and your brand MUST be unique to you. You need to find out what makes you you, and create content based on that. To find out what makes you unique, you have to build strong brand foundations. Here are some things to think about when you are building your brand foundations:
Why do you do what you do? This is the first question you must think about when building your brand foundations. Everyone has a reason for starting their business. You need to figure out your why before anything else. What about your business brings you joy? What about your business makes you want to get up everyday and work?
This question is actually a part of your why. Why do you want to do your work instead of something else? What motivates your business? What about your business is fulfilling? Do you empower women? Do you believe in making your audience happy with what you do? Are you creating awareness about the environment with your work?
What type of person would buy from you? What do they look like? How much money do they make? Why would they buy from you and not someone else? Crafting your ideal client avatar is essential when figuring out your business foundations. If you haven’t already, create your ideal client avatar. Then, use it as reference for everything you put online like your social media and website. If you are creating for your ideal client, you are more likely to gain the followers that WILL buy from you.
Think about this question beyond the initial problem your service/product solves. What are your ideal client’s pain points and how can your service or product solve them? What is your selling point?
What do you see when you close your eyes and think about your brand? What kind of objects or colors do you associate with your brand? Create a mood board of images on Pinterest! What similar themes are found throughout your images? Are there any specific colors or shapes you are seeing? This can get you thinking about how your content should look when you are putting it out there.
Once you build those brand foundations, you need to tie visuals to your brand. Your audience can tie your content to you when you use consistent visuals. This will lead them to trust you and recognize your brand in the future which will convert them into buyers.
In the end, these are only a few of the questions you should be thinking about when it comes to your brand foundations. Try thinking deeply about your business and everything it entails. Once you have solid brand foundations, you will be able to create content to attract your ideal client.
